Urban Providore Australia
We started from a humble stall in 2013 at Old Bus Depot Markets (OBDM) in Canberra, ACT. First selling Salami, Mettwhurst and Pepperoni from our colorful stall; the Salami Stack, then opening a stall focused on Smoked Australian Produce called Smok'n. At Christmas we ran a Christmas Hamper Bazaar with handmade and styled gourmet gift baskets full of Canberra and Australian only artisan produce.
In 2015 we opened our first store in Fyshwick, ACT on Wollongong St, stepping back from our OBDM stalls at the beginning of 2017.
Our little Fyshwick store slowly gained traction as the Fyshwick Village rejuvenated into a boutique shopping area. With locals and tourists attracted to great Cafe's, Books and the Furniture & Antique scene in Wollongong St, Urban Providore Australia fitted easily into this discerning shoppers 'to do list'!
In August 2018 we moved to larger premises in Gladstone St, Fyshwick. This new store features a unique workshop area for our hamper and salami bouquet workshops and a dedicated home for our tasting panel!.
Many of our favourite Canberra Foodies visit us regularly and we see over 100 new faces each month. Some of these new faces come from interstate and overseas to find gifts and choose gourmet artisan treats that are made locally in Australia and Canberra.
The pace changes completely in October when we begin our Christmas Hamper promotions with discounts throughout the month of October and November for our organised Corporate and Personal shoppers alike. Our range of bespoke Christmas Artisan Gift Hampers are the answer for many businesses and families.
December - The gourmet food month, is a whirl of long trading hours and outrageous customer numbers, as people seek out treats and Christmas table fare for their loved ones. During December we run 4 late night Foodie Shopping events and these are always packed full of the time poor! Grateful for another chance to tick items off their Christmas Shopping list.
Australian Only Focus
Our store is stocked with exclusively Australian Artisan produce. That means we only stock produce where we can be confident the ingredients have been predominantly sourced in Australia (some brands are religious in exclusively sourcing from Australian suppliers) and the business must be an Australian based business with profits benefiting the Australian economy.
Our Artisan Canberra Region produce
In Canberra we are committed to stocking any Artisan Food product Made in Canberra. In July 2018 we opened our first Providore focused solely on Canberra Regional Artisan produce at the Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets, Fyshwick. This Providore trades Thursday to Sunday in line with the Market trading times and produces bespoke Canberra Gift Boxes of Canberra Regional Produce.
At Easter and Mothers day we showcase the Canberra Chocolateirs, at Christmas we bring through hand made Gingerbread Houses and locally produced Mince Pies and Puddings.
Our Hamper Range
We have made a name for ourselves in the Gourmet Food Hamper market, with customers confident they can choose their hamper or base from our large range within the Hamper Room and we assist them to produce a bespoke hamper for their recipients. With 20% or 10% off for Christmas gifts in October & November respectively Hampers from Urban Providore Australia are a standard for many families and corporate clients.
We have a unique Christmas Crate (in 3 sizes each year) that includes all the delicacies and treats one would expect to find on the Christmas Table and during the holidays. These hampers are snapped up in store and through our online shop.
We also run workshops and encourage our customers to get creative with their Hamper ideas - our Salami Bouquet is one of our most popular gifted Hampers!
We also have Vintage Picnic Hampers for hire and can pack picnics of local produce for any occasions. We know we have been instrumental in marriage proposals, birthday celebrations and valentines dates!
Our Christmas Pop-Up
For December we like to pop up in Canberra City to assist the 'time-challenged' to do their Christmas Shopping before work, in their lunch or after hours. From Christmas food gifts, to table fare we have many December customers who visit us as they dash to work from 730am.
The Urban Providore Tasting Panel
We run an annual Tasting Panel for members of the Canberra Region community to work with us and our suppliers and customers to taste and report against each product in store. In 2018 we have created the Urban Providore Tasting Form to deploy in all future taste tests.
The Tasting Panel meets monthly and produces photographs, articles and social media posts about our adventures and tasting journey.
